Volunteer (vol-un-teer): n. a plant that sprouts from seeds formed the previous year.
After adjusting to their new home on North Chase Street, Sarah Frierson’s tomato plant volunteers are thriving! Still no ID on the mystery heirloom variety. If you’ve a clue, please submit. And don’t be afraid to bring those brave volunteers to the garden if you find yourself pressed for space.
I turn my back for one second and they call in the water engineers! Thanks to John and Wray for the brilliant installation and to everyone else for all the moral support they provided. No more water toting from across the street = “YESSS!!!”
A large six foot tall bird from the georgia mountains told me starts from the rooftop of the geography building are ready. Do we want any? Some need to go to Pinewood, some maybe to Willie Mae. Do we have room?
Sincerely,
Sarah Frierson

Sarah,
We would LOVE to have your volunteers! Whatever type they are, they will be enjoyed nonetheless. We have a master gardener in our midst so maybe she would be able to find the long-lost name of your heirloom. If you would like to come garden with us, we’re in the garden on Sundays from 10am till or you can just plop them on the porch in the white, pillared house across the street and we will get them. Many thanks for your correspondence. Hope to hear from you again.
Regards,
Little Garden
Touring the UGA Bioconversion, Research, and Education Center (BREC) introduced to me the idea that composting can be done on a large scale. Too bad I don’t have a pic of their operation. For now, an old picture of ours will suffice. Since then, us determined little gardeners have moved that unsightly pile of brush in the back and made space for yet another compost heap. We should really make a receptacle to take the neighbors’ food scraps…hmmm, I’ll look into that…
